8. Log Slide
The original wooden log slide measured 3000 ft (915m) and was anchored along the rock wall with chains, metal rings and wooden beams. This slide was essential to protect the 60ft section of precious white pine from being damaged by the rocks at the bottom of the waterfall and canyon. The log slide would allow the timbers to pass safely with a small amount of water to help propel the logs along the chute.
Over the years the wooden slide deteriorated into disrepair and became unstable. In 1923 they replaced the section of the wooden slide with the concrete one that you see today. This concrete slide is 300 ft (100m) and was used until the last log drive in 1982.
