9. Walk along the waterfall

Return back by the two bridges and take a left up the wooden staircase case. This will allow you to walk beside the waterfall and bring you around to the main lookout. As you travel this section, take note of the diversity of trees and the geological formations around you.

A large panel board relating to the geology of the site is displayed as point 9 in your self guided tour. Geology - Earth Sciences - is the study of the solid matter of the earth, its composition, structure, physical properties, history and the processes that shape it.

Did you know that the men first slept in rustic shelters made from poles covered with old piece of canvas; they slept on branches of evergreen trees and had only 2 blankets to cover them? Later, conditions improved slightly, with the construction of shanties. Men would sleep two to a bunk - 30 to 50 men in one camboose, kept warm with a center stone hearth or small belly stove.
